JWU Men's Basketball Signs Morganton Native Austin Spurlin

Charlotte, NC - Head Coach Jim Casciano and the Johnson & Wales men's basketball program announced the program's ninth signing of the year, adding Patton High School senior Austin Spurlin to their robust recruiting class.

The Morganton native scored nearly 15 points per game for Patton this past season while shooting 49 percent from the floor, helping the team finish 12-14.

A guard, Spurlin lettered three years at Patton and led the team to three consecutive state tournament appearances.  His three years as a letterwinner were also three of the four winningest seasons in program history.

"Austin is an excellent addition to our program," said Casciano.  "He is versatile player with a high basketball IQ.  He is very competitive and is a hard worker that fits our culture.  Austin has a tremendous upside to his game."

Patton's efforts this past season earned him all-conference and first team all-county honors.

Spurlin is the son of Sheila Jordan and plans on majoring in Sports/Entertainment/Event Management.
