JWU Men's Soccer Signs West Johnston's Gavin Brundidge

Charlotte, NC - Head Coach James Drzewiecki and the Johnson & Wales men's soccer program announced the signing of West Johnston High School senior Gavin Brundidge on Friday.  Brundidge, a resident of Benson, NC, is the seventh player to sign with Drzewiecki's 2017 recruiting class.

Originally from upstate New York, the 6'1" Brundidge captained West Johnston to a 14-7 record this season and an appearance in the state tournament.  Though he primarily played as a midfielder for his high school, Brundidge is projected to play center back at the collegiate level.

"Gavin's going to be great for us, both on and off the field," said Drzewiecki.  "There's nothing flashy about his game.  He's a guy who makes very few mistakes.  There's a subtlety about his game that can go unnoticed, but he can lock down opposing strikers and handle his business.

"We got to know him a bit earlier through some camps that (assistant coach) Kev Summers worked and Gavin also was a standout at our own ID Camp earlier this year.  He's a great addition all around for the Johnson & Wales community, no question about it."

Brundidge was a 2017 JUSA All-Johnston County midfielder and was named Johnston County McDonald's Player of the Week.  He was also picked for the 2017 Powerade North Carolina State Games earlier this year.

On the club level, he has been a two-year captain for GCAA Cleveland Ice, helping the team reach the finals of the 2017 Singer Cup.

Brundidge is a standout in the classroom, and will be graduating in the Top 10 percent of his class with High Honors.  He's a member of Junior Marshall and National Honor Society.  He also serves on the State SADD Student Advisory Board, and helped the West Johnston SADD Chapter earn SADD Chapter of the Year honors at the North Carolina State Conference.

Brundidge is the son of Jason and Jessica Brundidge and plans on majoring in Business Administration.
