ILijah Washington Joins Brothers On The Pitch at JWU

Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales Men's Soccer Head Coach Matt Payne is happy to announce the signing of 6'4" center back ILijah Washington of Okinawa Japan. ILijah is the third member of the Washington family to take the field for the Wildcats, join his brothers Iseiah, a rising senior, and Imani, a rising junior.

ILijah was a member of the 2016 and 2018 D1 Boys Far East Soccer Tournament Champions. He named to the DoDEA All-District Soccer Team each year from 2015-2108, and was selected to the Soccer Far East All-Tournament Team in 2016, 2017, and 2018. He was also named Far East Tournament Best Defender in 2018. He is also an outstanding basketball player, earning All-District and All-Tournament honors during his junior and senior seasons. Due to his prowess on both the court and field, Washington was named the 2018 Kubasaki High School Athlete of the Year.

Washington is also an excellent student. He was an honor roll student in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Payne had this to say about Washington: "We are excited to add ILijah to the team. He brings a great blend of size, athleticism, and technical ability to the program. We hope he can continue the tradition of excellence established by his brothers here at JWU!"

Washington is the son of Sueko and Tony Washington.
