Charlotte, NC - Senior middle hitter Lucy Herrmann reached the 1,000 kill plateau as the Johnson & Wales volleyball team defeated Wake Tech Community College in four sets, winning 25-12, 26-28, 25-16, 25-21.
Herrmann, who led the Lady Wildcats (15-6) with 17 kills, seven aces, and 18 digs, reached the milemarker with the opening kill of the third set.
The game was stopped to honor her on the accomplishment, while the crowd greeted her with a standing ovation.
"I'm very pleased with our consistency and overall effort tonight," said Johnson & Wales head coach Callie Phillips. "We were tested and pushed in spots and responded well. We made the proper adjustments to keep the upper hand in the final set, and our whole team came together to make plays. I'm happy that we could get the win as we celebrated 1,000 kills for Lucy as well. She's been a huge part of the development of our program, and I'm so happy to see her reach this milestone."
The Lady Wildcats resume play on Saturday when they host Surry Community College and Sandhills Community College as part of the Wildcat Tri-Match. Johnson & Wales will open up play at noon against Surry in the Wildcat Center.
