#6 JWU Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight, Tops Surry 3-1

Charlotte, NC - The USCAA #6 Johnson & Wales volleyball team won their fourth straight contest on Saturday, defeating visiting Surry Community College by the scores of 29-27, 13-25, 25-18, 28-26.

The win against Surry avenged a five-set loss earlier in the season for the Lady Wildcats (16-6).

"This is another good win and resume builder," said head coach Callie Phillips.  "We showed that we can defeat a team we lost to earlier in the season and that we can stand up to pressure and close out tight games that go into extra points.  I'm very pleased with this effort today."

Lucy Herrmann led Johnson & Wales with 17 kills and 17 digs.  Toniya Scott added 12 kills while Madison Steed finished with 10.

Johmillet Berrios posted nine kills and a team-high 31 digs.  Halle Franklin and Keri Ketchie also turned in strong defensive performances, with 30 and 24 digs, respectively.

Donna Harris finished with 42 assists.

Before the game, the team collected food items to make and donate sandwiches to the Charlotte Urban Ministry Center.

"Through the donations of our team and fans, we are on the way to making well over 100 sandwiches to donate to Charlotte Urban Ministry to help feed the homeless," said Phillips.  "Many thanks to everyone who participated and helped collect the donations."

The team resumes play on Tuesday when they travel to Greensboro, NC, to play Greensboro College.  Play begins at 7:00 p.m.
